Anette Brecko

Biography

Anette is a senior at UC Berkeley double majoring in computer science and linguistics, and they joined the IRVLab in the summer of 2026 as an NSF REU fellow. Their work with the lab focuses on developing a grammar for relaying complex hand gesture commands to underwater robots in order to make human-robot communication in underwater environments more efficient and intuitive. In their free time, Anette enjoys biking, reading, backpacking, and gardening.

Autumn Herrington

Biography

Autumn Herrington joined the IRV Lab as an NSF REU researcher in Summer 2026. She is currently pursuing her B.S. in applied mathematics at California State University, Long Beach. Her summer research focuses on replacing traditional quaternion systems with geometric algebra to optimize autonomous navigation and develop more intuitive spatial controls for underwater robotics. In her free time, Autumn loves going on hikes, exploring nature, and spending time outdoors.

Francis Aweenagua

Biography

Francis Aweenagua started his PhD in the Fall of 2025. He obtained his BSc degree in Computer Engineering at Ashesi University in Ghana in June 2021. Prior to starting his PhD, Francis worked on autonomous mobile robots for tour guidance and social interaction. His current research focuses on hardware–software co-design for multirobot collaboration in constrained environments. He is also interested in computer vision systems for robot interaction.

Amreen Hossain

Biography

Amreen started her Ph.D. in Fall 2025. Before starting as a Ph.D. student, she earned her B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from Brac University in Bangladesh. Her research interests include robot perception, sensor fusion, and human-robot interaction. In her free time, she enjoys creating digital art.

Grant Schwidder

Biography

Grant is an undergraduate student who started research with the IRVLab at during his sophomore year. He is currently studying computer science, with an interest in deep learning and underwater human-robot interaction. In his free time, he composes music and plays video games.

David Widhalm

Biography
David completed a BSE in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2007. Since then he has been employed as a federal civilian employee for the US Navy, first at NSWC Carderock working in ship design and then NUWC Keyport testing underwater vehicles. During this time he earned an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University focusing on microwave engineering in 2013. He is interested in using models and simulations to reinforce and enhance the information gathered from real-world testing.

Rishi Mukherjee

Biography

Rishi started his Ph.D. in Computer Science in Fall 2025, and he is interested in Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning. He is primarily focused on Sensory related AI, i.e., Computer Vision and its applications, as well as semantic analysis using AI. Rishi is a former undergraduate and master's RA at the IRVLab.

Sakshi Singh

Biography

Sakshi started her Ph.D. in the Fall of 2022. She graduated with a master's in ECE from The Ohio State University in May 2020. Before starting as a Ph.D. student, she worked on vision-aided drone landing and in-flight obstacle avoidance. Her area of interest lies in robotics and computer vision. She also enjoys reading and swimming in her free time.
